Gio Gioseppe Piccini was born on November 12, 1661 in the district of Nona, now a hamlet of the municipality of Vilminore di Scalve, where he was baptized in the Parish Church of the Nativity of Mary. The Piccini family belonged to the Associazione vicinale del borgo, which was then populated by about a hundred residents.
Introduced at a very young age to the workshop of carver Capitanio, Piccini soon revealed extraordinary talents that drove him to seek better masters. After his experience with the Ramus family and contact with Andrea Fantoni, he returned to the Valley to continue his studies as a self-taught artist, drawing inspiration from texts and prints by great masters.
Having become an established artist, he worked in Val di Scalve, Valle Camonica and in cities such as Bergamo, Brescia and Milan. Despite important commissions and prestigious recognition, Piccini remained tied to his land, where he died in December 1725, leaving numerous works in the churches of the territory.
