Barzesto:
Church of the Santissimo Corpo di Cristo

The building, originally built around 1300, was subjected, in 1600 and 1729, to renovation works that gave it its current appearance. The Church, with its eighteenth-century style facade slightly advanced in the central part, is preceded and partly flanked, to the south, by a raised sagrato of a few steps above the road, from which it is protected by a stone wall with small columns. It has a pointed base on which rest six pilasters that divide the front facade into five compartments; in the central one, in the lower order, is located the squared stone portal, with light incisions, surmounted by a crowning and a broken pediment. The facade is also divided horizontally by a complete entablature with cornice. On the right side of the building, attached to it, is the priest's house preceded by a portico, divided into two bays by a central stone pillar, which, hosting the side entrance, also has the function of access to the Church. The Church of Barzesto, dedicated to the Most Holy Body of Christ, became a Parish in 1676, following separation from the Church of San Giorgio in Vilmaggiore.
