Dezzo:
Church of Santa Maria Maddalena

Although the origins of Christian culture in the district of Dezzo are unknown, an inscription existing in an ancient codex of the parish archive, now dispersed, comes to our aid: it tells of how a sacred building, in Dezzo, was built in the year 1350, a date that, not by chance, is a few decades after the erection of the Church of Azzone as a Parish. The "fabrica" of the current building dates back to June 15, 1687, on which, over time, some interventions have been carried out, the last of which, realized in 1928-29 on a project by engineer Angelini of Bergamo, has given us the building as we still admire it today. The current baptistery is the result of the extension both on the front, with the setback of the entrance portal and the creation of two external lateral porticoes delimited by iron gates (Chapel of the Gleno Disaster and Monument to the Fallen) and in the apse area, with the expansion towards the mountain, to make room for the current sacristy. The Church of Dezzo, dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene became a Parish in 1754, following separation from the Church of Saints Philip and James of Azzone, and was consecrated on October 2, 1967 by Bishop Clemente Gaddi.
