The Church of Schilpario, dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, whose first stone was laid on May 14, 1664 and opened for worship in the year of its completion in 1682, stands on the same site where in 1338 the original church was built, elevated to Parish on March 26, 1387, following separation from the Church of San Giorgio di Vilmaggiore.
The building of worship, with its bell tower from 1664 that is 42 meters high, has a very simple facade with the portal in the center surrounded by local marble, and a pediment with triangular tympanum where a mosaic cross is placed made with tesserae of slag, blast furnace waste from local mines. On the exterior of the church, over time, there have been numerous structural interventions, among which should be noted that of 2022/2023 with the construction of the portico along the side facade, where the door most used for entering the church is located and which faces Cardinal Maj Square. This intervention, with few modifications, was carried out on a project drawn up by engineer Luigi Angelini in 1935 and, for various reasons, never realized.
